About Herman PFC

One School, Two Communities

Leonard Herman Intermediate School is a single school site that is home to two learning communities: the general Herman program and AdVENTURE STEM, a grades 5 through 8 project based STEM program option within the Oak Grove School District. AdVENTURE STEM students come from across the district, but they share the same campus, staff, events, and PFC as every other Herman student. Throughout this page, “Herman Intermediate School and AdVENTURE STEM” is used to make that shared community clear, and every family, student, and staff member from either program is equally part of PFC.

Our Purpose

Herman Parent Faculty Club (PFC) is a home and school association whose purpose is to foster a closer relationship between home and school and to assist in the general welfare of Leonard Herman Intermediate School and AdVENTURE STEM, its students, and the community.

To achieve this goal, PFC:

• Conducts fundraising activities to purchase durable goods
• Promotes activities and programs that enhance the education of all children at the school
• Works to promote mutual cooperation and communication between PFC, all other parent groups, and the school itself

Community Impact

PFC also supports student programs that give our community opportunities to come together and help support other groups in need.

Membership

All staff, parents, guardians, and anyone directly involved with a student of Herman Intermediate School and AdVENTURE STEM are considered members of PFC. All members are encouraged to participate in PFC activities throughout the year, even if they are unable to attend monthly meetings.

Governance

The Executive Board represents the membership and is composed of PFC voting members who are either elected or appointed to Officer or Director positions.

• The Executive Board meets monthly throughout the school year
• Board members manage the organizational and financial aspects of all PFC functions
• PFC operates on an annual budget, approved by a PFC membership vote

Voting privileges: Voting privileges belong to any parent, guardian, or other adult standing in loco parentis for a student at the school, as well as the principal and any teacher or staff employed by the school, provided they are in good standing with PFC and demonstrate active participation in PFC and school sponsored activities.

How We Raise Funds

The money used to sponsor PFC activities is raised through annual PFC fundraising events, including:

• The annual Direct Donation Drive
• Spirit Wear sales
• Donations from community partners, such as grocery stores and online retailers
• Restaurant fundraising nights, where teachers, staff, students, and families gather at a local restaurant for a meal, with a portion of the proceeds donated back to the school

Our Success

The success of PFC can be measured in the cooperative spirit with which parents and staff work together to share their care and concern for Herman Intermediate School and AdVENTURE STEM students. PFC’s success can also be seen in students’ appreciation for their school, their teachers, and the opportunities presented to them.
